Introduction by Eric Svoboda

I first met Steve at a party at Roger Mayden’s apartment in 1985. Roger and I were in a band, The Eighth Day, with my childhood friend, Brian. We were destined for greatness- just a matter of all the pieces falling into place, right? So, Steve volunteered to be our manager- a piece we were missing. Great, you’re in Steve, welcome to the band. It was that simple, really. I didn’t really know anything about him.

After we all moved to Martha’s Vineyard, we lived together for about eight months. We were, essentially, together every day for nearly two years, I think. He knew almost everything there was to know about me- I made sure he did so he could handle all of those press inquiries that would be coming his way. I mean, he’d need to know all about my childhood, my girlfriends, my favorite food, movies-all that-to be able to properly present me to the music press. And he wanted to know all that stuff-I think he really was interested. And why shouldn’t he be, the world revolved around me. I was 19.
