In the months that followed his 'kidnapping' from the intergalactic cruise ship The Meteor, Kai adapted to the life of a pirate better than he'd ever imagined. Perhaps it was simply in his nature at this point as thievery had been his specialty as a child. However, it couldn't be said that walking out of a store with food wedged between your legs was terribly similar to firing at large overburdened cargo or passenger ships and then ransacking them. Piracy was definitely in a class of its own.

Maybe he would feel more conflicted about it if they were actually harming any one person instead of merely stealing from gigantic and often ruthless corporations. Anything they removed from passengers or from cargo would be covered by insurance anyway. So even if Ajal held up a rich woman at phaserpoint, in reality he was simply robbing her insurance company blind.

The large, dark skinned pirate was masterful at his craft and never hurt anyone needlessly. Kai knew that he disliked killing after his first terrible experience which explained why he chose to simply blast his victims into sweet unconsciousness instead of shooting a laser bolt through their chests. From what he knew, Ajal hadn't killed anyone since he was arrested on Bouron 3.

After spending a number of years in the service industry, Kai had become too soft-hearted for his own good. He ate, lived, and slept with pirates and so was one by proxy but Ajal never took him on missions. It wasn't that the redhead couldn't defend himself, the younger man was a crack shot still and becoming more adept in hand to hand combat by the day, it was simply that he cared too much about others to willingly stun anyone.
