Arnold Marcus pulled his car up in front of the Mini Shop. There was one other car in the lot. That had to be the clerk’s. That would be fine. Usually the clerk was the owner, his old wife, or their son, none of which made Arnold nervous. He got out of the car. It was summer in Oklahoma, and an exceptionally hot one at that. Arnold hurried out of the heat into the air conditioning of the gas station.
He saw it was the owner’s wife running it right now. She would have bothered him a lot more had she been younger and in better shape. But the fat old woman didn’t cause a single nerve to fire. Arnold went up to the counter.
