Ian Fairfax finished his last check of the modifications he’d made to the Starwinds’ engines by opening the auxiliary panel on the secondary intake feedline. Everything was in order. He smiled to himself. Everything appeared to be in order, appeared being the operative word. Ian knew he was really in the large virtuality chamber, not crouching by the intake feedline in his starboard engine deck. Still even knowing that the sensation of the panel he felt in his hand was only a trick of the whole-body virtuality suit he wore, and the sight of the engine deck an illusion provided by the virtuality, didn’t make it seem less real
