Galina shivered a little as she followed Stefan into his apartment, but the shiver had more anticipation in it than anything else. Stefan smiled at her reassuringly as he ushered her in, locking the door behind them.
“Are you still certain?” he asked, noting her reaction. His expression was patient, gentle, offering no hint of rebuke or disappointment.
She could hardly believe she was doing this. Only a few days ago she had been complaining to her best friend over lunch about yet another failed date.
“These guys are all nice enough,” Galina griped, “but I don’t want nice. I want someone with a backbone. Is that so much to ask?”
