PROLOGUE

Bill Gordon was not that far away from retirement. Stationed in Manhattan, he’d been a stalwart member of the NTSB - National Transportation Safety Board - since graduating from Columbia with a law degree back in 1986. It had been an interesting 30 years, filled with the likes of the crash of TWA 800 back in the late 90s, and then horror upon horror, the 3,000+ al-Qaeda murders on 9/11/01. It could be said with absolute certainty, that there were no standard days at the agency - certainly not in New York City. Every day was different, challenging, and certainly always on the brink of what the jaunty officer thought interesting.
