The town was otherworldly. The buildings, arcing upward in organic shapes because they were grown and not built; the vehicles, some of which floated on the yellow haze of a force field, and others which rolled on transparent wheels made of pure energy; the people, which ranged from aquatic creatures clothed in “spacesuits” containing the fluid they needed to breathe, to gasbag creatures that looked like biological hot air balloons with alien faces.
As well, the ships that docked in the port were otherworldly, some taking ridiculous and ungainly shapes, and others sticking to traditional graceful contours.
It was a dirty seedy place, both in terms of the dirt and grime that clung to everything, and in terms of the attitudes and morals of the lifeforms that populated it while their ships were refuelling and cargoes being transferred—much like profiteering spaceports on every planet.
