Dillon sat in the interview room with his mother and Inspector Cole. The walls were painted pink and the floor had blue-grey carpet tiles. There was a mark on the wall where it must have been punched. Dillon knew it had been there for ages and he guessed it would always be there, never to be fixed. There was a small, high window of bubbled glass. A blurred image of a bus moved past outside and the tail end of it stopped just in view. The inspector had stopped speaking and Dillon returned to the conversation.
