“Congratulations, Douglas,” Mrs. Page said, “The room is yours.”

Doug breathed a sigh of relief. He’d had this overwhelming fear that he would be sleeping in his car for the first month of college. Nobody seemed to have a room available, not that he could afford at any rate, and he stumbled upon the house just by a stroke of luck. The place was your typical home in the middle of Anywhere, USA, normally just a three bedroom two bathroom home, but The Pages had done some serious remodeling, and had turned an unfinished basement into an apartment.

The first part of September still had as much heat as August, and the older woman wore a shoulderless and sleeveless blouse that left her tanned and freckled shoulders bare (except where her long blond hair spilled over them), and gave him an uncomfortable view of the top of her plump cleavage.
