Shaozu’s dreams were wild and disturbing. Lihua was there in his bed as their relationship was finally consummated tenderly before she was lost to him in violently graphic fashion. He had an awareness of people around him tending to him in a small darkened room. His wounds were serious and Shaozu kept drifting in and out of consciousness before he eventually woke up and was capable of coherent thought. He recognised the man who sat at his bedside, a bald Chinese man in his 30s, though he did not know his name. All he knew was that this man had looked after him recently and Shaozu had hazy memories of being a difficult patient for him. He felt that he had sworn at him and had possibly tried to lash out at him in his delirium. He looked to this man, who smiled benignly at him, recognising that Shaozu’s senses were returning to him, and Shaozu asked him, “Where am I?”
