"I'm so sleepy, Mommy!" little Karen said. She let out a big yawn then closed her eyes and fell asleep. Her little brother, Lowell, was asleep in the next bed. Their mother, Elle, had just served them juice laced with a sleeping drug. Karen was six; Lowell was two. Elle kissed them both then headed for the living room.
Their father, Dave, was on the couch examining a small black box on the coffee table. It had a number pad, a green button, and a red button; a red light on top that looked like an eye; and a digital display set to zero.
"Did it work?" Elle asked.
