It's a Wonderful Lay

"I hate this time of the year!" a slurred, drunken voice said. His voice had risen over the rest of the chatter and Christmas music playing in the bar. The bar crowd cringed, preparing for him again.

"You don't say." the bartender said, rolling his eyes at the other patrons.

"Are you kidding me Ronny? This guy hasn't shut up all night!" another voice yelled to the cheers of the rest of the bar.

The bartender, Ronny, walked over to the young man who lay slumped on the counter. "Son, you're not the only one who has a hard time this year. It's Christmas Eve, look at this place. Overflowing. So pipe down huh?"

The young man tried to prop himself up on an arm, failing twice. A third time he was able to accomplish his task and looked at the bartender with bleary eyes.

"I'll have you know sir," he burped "that I'm in a deep hole of sorrow."

"And no one could possibly understand you huh?"
