INTRODUCTION


There are many ways to write prose fiction. Stories can be written from the points of view of many characters, or from the position of an all-seeing narrator. Stories can focus on one character's life, or look at a wider world. There are worthwhile reasons for writing each of these types.

But this book argues for wholeheartedly writing the story of one character, the main protagonist, and telling the story solely from behind that character's eyes. This is how I write at the moment, having moved toward it step by step during my writing career.
