Concerning Mama's Taste in Men

For the past three or four days, the clouds had been building up over the mountains. Now I figure those mountains are about eighty miles away, so being able to see the clouds build up that clear kind of scared me. As the man of the family, and as the only man on my mama's small farm, I sure didn't need those clouds. I figured any day now they'd spill over the mountains like water over a dam and race across the plains, loosing bucketsful of frog-strangling rain and washing out my and Mama's meager crops. Anyway, those clouds were more than enough to worry about. I sure didn't need Joe Ray Louis mouthing off about my mama. But he had.
