Hard to believe all she was seeing would cease to exist in a month's time.

Captain Natalie Roman shaded her eyes from the sunset sending gold and red flames across the shimmering ocean. A brisk wind from the sea tugged at her navy EMF uniform and whipped her dark red hair back from her face.

"This is a beautiful place." She turned, lowering her hand, then using it to hold her hair out of her eyes. "I can see why you built your research center here," she told the young man standing beside her. "It’s the highest elevation on this continent that you can build on without shearing off the top of a mountain."
