The rain splattered on stone gargoyles atop of the mansion as the evening grew colder. I had seen the long line of cars in the driveway towards the glittering mansion. I couldn’t make out the path in which my driver took, he was quite adapt in maneuvering within the dirt path in which we had driven through.

Where are we?” I asked the man who shielded his face from my view.

Nearby Miss Caroline,” he said voice hoarse as it was. I wondered for a short period if he were sick or had a cough.

I stared out of the dark windows of the car as it crawled behind a few other cars, all making their way to the mansion. I felt a jolt of panic submerge within me as we approached the dark castle. The rain poured down from the dark clouds as the driver opened the car door. “Miss Caroline,” he said offering me his hand. I took it, using my other hand to hold my dress up before it got ruined by the mud.

I stood at the entrance where the guests were pouring in, all unrecognizable as they wore their masks. I walked past the tall brass doors that lay open for the guests and slowly made my way down the dark velvet carpet that was laid before us all.
