Another twenty people died in the cave-in, twenty on top of the five from the day before and seven the day before that. Not even an extraordinarily high number, twenty meant nothing to them. They didn't care when the terrible explosion killed over one hundred twenty people the year before. To them it was nothing more than population control. After all, none of the miners had the sixth sense, the powers of the mind that would have raised them above the peasantry. If they could converse mind-to-mind like the aristocrats, and manipulate matter by force of will alone like the even more powerful royals could, they wouldn't be trapped underground at the whim of those who ruled the queendom.
