"You'll come back with us on the return trip, right?" Cadarn hated to plead, but this time it was necessary. He needed the man. Actually he needed sixteen men, but what he had was twelve, and one leaving.
Cryfder gave him a quiet smile. "I only agreed one way. Tref is my home. I intend to stay for a while, look in on my parents and make sure they are well. Share out some of my pay."
"I'll give you double rates," Cadarn offered. Cryfder shook his head.
Cadarn stifled a sigh. He couldn't imagine why a man would be so set on staying in this place. A grim little settlement filled with the reek from the cattle market, overshadowed on all sides by grey mountains with icy peaks. Nothing to do and nothing to buy, not even a set of fighting pits for entertainment.
