A warm breeze playfully skipped across the ground, picking up the dust that had piled up from days of no rain. The coolness of the morning had given way to the heat that would bake the land for the rest of the day. The air was dry and the sky was clear, allowing the sun to beat down without mercy.
Jonah had travelled a long way from home and, now, all he wanted was to go into the local watering hole. To be out of the heat would be a welcome relief, but to douse his parched throat would be a blessing. He could not remember how long it had been since the last rainfall, but to him, it felt as if he had not quenched his thirst for an eternity.
