"A win today and we lock up a playoff spot!"
A resounding "Yeah!" erupted from my teammates.
I think I'm a good pitcher, even at twelve. My dad taught me the fastball. I turned it into a wicked pitch that helped me earn two no-hitters. My dad and many coaches think my arm is special.
"Make me proud," my dad said to me. He said it every game and he attended all of them.
I took the mound.
I struck out the first two and the third batter fouled out.
We took a 2-0 lead after two innings.
In the third, I encountered the ninth batter. That's where a coach sticks the worst player. I'm not a big kid, but this kid was scrawny and a head shorter than me! The foam of the helmet didn't even touch him. The kid looked like a bobble head with his helmet bouncing around. He wore glasses that reflect the sunlight at me. He dragged his left foot because of a brace.
