Acknowledgement: My brother Steve, my father Alex and the hundreds of people I knew growing up in Cannon Hill, on Brisbane’s East side. I particularly want to acknowledge the old soldiers who had returned battered and bruised from World War II and the older soldiers who had served in WWI. Also to the stalwart wives and mothers who were the real glue of that society regardless of how irascible their men were. These men and women, now mostly gone, were the real repositories of Aussie Slang.
