Note on Cover Art

Two photographs have been used on the front cover. One is of the Rosette Nebula, usually associated with NGC 2237. This region is full of young star formation. The body of the nebula consists of gases and dust formed from the far earlier explosion of many supernovae, each of which would have been billions of times brighter than our own sun during the height of their explosions. From the spark of their deaths, new suns and worlds are born.

The second photo shows fireworks, an earthly form of nighttime sky art that has dazzled those young and old for over a century.

May this book set off fireworks or even supernovae in your own mind, rich with the spark of creativity.
