THE TROPICAL TABOO CAPER

A Temple Mystery

IN ALL OF THE OLD PULP MAGAZINES AND PAPERBACKS, they call private eyes hard boiled. I used to wonder why that was, until the day I figured it out for myself. That wasn’t the best day of my life, but it was one I will never forget.

My name is Temple, Preacher Roe Temple. Some people see my first name and figure my parents must have been very religious people. Others – those who know baseball – know what it’s all about. My dad played some ball back in the day, and he named his one and only son after one of his own heroes from what he always called ‘Baseball’s Best Era’.
