IT ALL BEGAN with my ten year old daughter. Although she’s well disciplined, of late she’d been coming home later than usual from school, humming Blue Danube. A surprise, considering we never played Blue Danube in fifteen years. Donna’s school is right across the park; a mere hundred or so meters separate our house from the school. Donna had acquired a rather disquieting habit of frequenting a big, Sprite Caravan which had for the last two months found a home on the park green. One special weekend during our outing I asked her, quite innocently, what she wanted to be when she grew up. She promptly replied: “Ballerina.” That was contrary to what I had always thought she wanted to be: a dentist.
