Bree wasn’t really sure how old she was; things like birthdays hadn’t ever been something celebrated. Most of the time, her mother had yelled at her just for being alive. They’d lived in an overcrowded slum that Bree had wandered through a lot as a child. Her wanderings had started when her mother began pushing her out into the dirty hallway when men came over.
