The child ran into town, breath puffing out like a locomotive behind her, passing by people strolling down the sidewalk as they carefully side-stepped the girl with the wild eyes. Tangled hair bounced with each step, her dirty face only cleaned by the tracks of tears. She wore a pink Hello Kitty jacket that was on the verge of being too small, with her hands stuffed into the pockets. One could only speculate what treasures she carried within the depths of its pink lining, as she was always going to the butcher’s, always in a hurry, and always alone.
