HOW DEEP THE ANCIENT SEA
Salt creaks under pressure.
That's the first thing the old hands in Hallstatt will tell you when you go down the salt mines. It's what they told me, when I was little, my first time: "Salt creaks. Listen for it. Listen, and get out. Fast."
And my mama would say, "There's always more salt. There's other mines, we can get it out other tunnels. But there's only one you."
