This book is a work of fiction. Names and characters are either the product of the author’s imagination or are used fictionally. U-893 is a fictional U-boat. Historically, places and events are based upon extensive research, including military bases named. This includes the prisoner of war camp, Camp Papago Park, located in east Phoenix that housed men of the German Navy from October 1943 to March 1946. If there is incorrect information, it is done without intent to harm.
The Swastika Tattoo is a book about intolerance. Derogatory, even offensive, words referring to African Americans, Jews, and other races or nationalities are used because during this historical time frame such words were spoken with impunity. Unfortunately, these words are part of that history. They are not meant to offend, but to inform.
