This is a work of fiction. All characters, events, and places are of the author’s imagination and not to be confused with fact. Any resemblance to living persons or events is merely coincidence.
Breathe. Slow, deep breaths. Gwen inhaled, but her mind told her she wasn’t getting any oxygen. A trick inspired and fed by terror. A fine vibration through the seat beneath her butt added to her fear.
Laney took Gwen’s hand and squeezed. “We’re fine.”
Gwen trusted the doctor, and her own training and education agreed with Laney. But they were in a damned landing ship careening through atmosphere toward an alien planet. If they didn’t burn up on their trip down, they could crash and splatter into a million pieces when they hit the ground. Even if they managed that safely, the air could be toxic and kill them. Or the water undrinkable. Or no food sources would be found, and they’d starve.
