However, in three stories—The Tammany Affair, The Ghosts of Red Lion, and The Mysterious Woman—a number of the characters named in the story are based on actual people who lived in and around Anaconda, Montana, near the turn of the century, although their use herein is completely fictitious. Many of the locales are also real, although the author “adjusted” geography and historical chronology a smidgeon to fit the story’s plot.
