As a child, I would never have considered myself lucky. I grew up poor and without reason to dream. My family life was a mess, and being a black female in the 1950’s made it worse. Most people would be right in thinking that I’d never do anything important in my life. But today, I say proudly, “It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from. The ability to triumph begins with you. Always.” Hi, I’m Oprah Winfrey, and I am considered to be the most influential African-American woman in the world today. However, being rich and powerful was never my goal. Let me tell you my story.
