Mia was taking her time getting ready for her part-time job at her mother’s dance studio, shoving her ballet slippers in her tattered Nike gym bag with the bulky sweater she would certainly need when the temperature would sink to a biting 14 degrees at sunset. Hoping for a few extra minutes to practice like a pro rather than the glorified babysitter she had become, she reluctantly shoved her pointed shoes on top. Knowing that having a few minutes to practice was as much a long shot of pursuing her dream of dancing professionally; her hopes of breaking out of her mundane life and into the spotlight kept her inner fire alive and breathing. Just as she closed her bedroom door, she glanced across the hallway at her brother’s room. The door was open, exposing an expanding mountain of dirty laundry and old pizza that smelled like the very essence of the Dungeons and Dragons fiend he had become.
