An Unfinished House
By K. Patrick Malone
Dedicated to all the contractors, workmen, carpenters and woodworkers that I have had the great privilege of knowing in my life. They make our homes warm, safe, comfortable and beautiful, but rarely, if ever, reveal their backaches, hardships and heartaches, seeming to the outside world to be “tough as nails” but in reality hiding fragile souls and hearts as big as the outdoors they work in through all weather. So it is with great pride that they have felt secure enough to reveal themselves to me. I feel truly honored. You’ve tapped into a part of my soul I didn’t know was there and I will now never live without, Here’s to you, guys, blisters, splinters, callouses and all. “Bang, bang! Thump, thump! Crash, bang, thump, vrrrroooommm.” KPM
“Blame it all on my roots, I showed up in boots . . .Yee haaa!”
