This is a work of fiction. Any references to historical events, real people, or real locales are used fictitiously. Other names, characters, places, and incidents are the product of the author’s imagination, and any resemblance to actual events, locales, or persons, living or dead (or undead), is entirely coincidental.
The blinding lights turned the rest of the bar into a mass of dark shadows and made it seem like they were alone in the place, but the cheers and applause from the tipsy audience frequently shattered that illusion. Derrick kept his eyes half closed most of the time, purring a low harmony into the microphone while his fingers picked out a thrumming counterpoint on the bass. Nate’s guitar sent out a string of high, fast notes that wove in and out of Derrick’s bassline, Nate’s rich tenor whispering threats to the audience through the speakers. It was their encore piece, and the crowd had earned it.
