This book is dedicated to my children. I love you and miss you more every day. It is also dedicated to the many parents and children who have gone through the protective services system. To any parents that are currently dealing with this system, whether you are in Clark County or elsewhere, I urge you to research and know your rights. Use any and all resources that are available to keep your family together.

To those that are facing or have faced a termination of their parental rights, know that it is not the end of the world. I know from personal experience that it feels like it. I am not being cold when I say that. There are some days that I don’t think I can face without my children. But I do, and you will, too. Even if a termination of parental rights has been or will be granted, some states have laws that can reverse it. If not, do not count the days that you have been without your children, count the days until you can be reunited when they are old enough to decide themselves whether or not what some court said was right, and who their parents really are.

Knock, knock. Who's there?
Your family's night-mare.
Don't open it, don't let them in,
or the pain may never end.
Children ripped from your arms,
torn from the beds they're nestled in.
Mommy why, Daddy no.
Please don't make me go.
While down the lane
still on it will go.
Some will starve, some will die from abuse.
Others hide the pain
from innocence torn away.
Where were you then?
I do not know.
Shattered lives, names changed
good memories forgotten.
And still you smile when you
look in the mirror.
Stealer of dreams, purveyor of lies
crusher of the very lives
you swore to protect.
