Interview with Shalom Isreal

What's the story behind your latest book?
This graphic novel is the first of its kind. It has been termed a fictitious non-fiction solely predicated on the fact that it is loosely based on real life events. All the names, places and characters have been totally altered. Within its pages you’ll literally experience the adrenaline of addiction! Addictions of all kind, including but not limited to, Sex, Drugs, Suicide, Slavery, Rap and Roll! We will explore various stigmas associated with abuse, racism, religion, politics, spirituality, sexuality, and homosexuality. You will laugh, cry, curse, and then laugh some more. But above all you'll heal! Travel with me in the fast lane to a world filled with characters that all but jump off the page and come to life right before your eyes. I “Shalom Isreal” was a beautiful bi-racial renaissance artist who after my fiancé unknowingly laced my weed with crack found myself involved in an unrequited love affair with a bitch named cocaine. After realizing that drug allowed me to lose all inhibitions I permitted it to take me into a culture filled with sex, lust, and the freedom self-expression. My father was a reformed Christian who himself was forced to marry my mother after she got pregnant with me so as to escape her own personal hell. After being molested by my cousin, and then consensually raped by my father’s best friend, I was diagnosed with ADD and severe bi-polar disorder. Losing ."everything short of my mind, I've met met a bevy of “Crackpots,” including the lust of her life 'Magnus Miles."

Follow as I explore my chronicles as recorded from my make believe personal diary. It was not until I suffered the loss of my best friend that I was jarred back to my senses and forced to assume responsibility and custody of my son and twin god daughters. Witness the amazing ending that will leave you spellbound anticipating the film. Come and read on an emotional roller-coaster that will leave you hot and bothered, and then lift your spirits to a place of cool, calm collect.

Few novels come along and create an environment so polarizing that you are unable to put it down, and insist on reading it twice! If i don't say so myself, “Crackpots” is simply Amazing! “Crackpots” hits the jackpot!

Please support my miraculous recovery by following my journey chapter or should I say entry by entry as I attempt to teach temperance to a cold cold world so as to lift those who are in need of a healing hand.

Thank you in advance,

Shalom
What motivated you to become an indie author?
After living as well as hearing about the many experiences and triumphs associated within the pages of this first of a kind novel, i was inspired to write a film. I shared the treatment with a local film producer and she like the idea. I was told that she in turn, shared it with Hollywood director John Singleton who also saw potential in the story. She challenged to change the title and give the characters more depth. After attending a Screenwriter's University Course they taught me that a great way to do that was to change the medium so I decided to write it in novel form. The original name was "A Crack Head's Diary." I changed it to 'CrackPots" after much thought and contemplation.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has made it affordable, convenient, as well as user friendly for me to introduce this amazing novel to the literary piece to the world. I truly appreciate this opportunity to explore the underbelly of society in a very responsible way so as to shine a light of inspiration on the dark situation, and cause massive inner-standing and healing.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy is to channel and be used by a higher power so as to address topics that everyone seems to turn a blind eye toward, as if it does not exist. To be able to address the elephant in the room with "No guilt, No shame, No regret, and No Judgment!" The greatest joy is the mutual inner-standing and healing that comes to the planet by and from everyone who completes the novel.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing I am motivational speaking, meditating, reading, singing and or performing.
What is your writing process?
I have to be inspired by a personal experience or an event of significant cause. All of my creative sparks have a hint of truth to them. That is why I have coined the new genre "Fictitious Non-fiction." I will generally begin at 7:47 A.M and once I begin writing I may write until well after 7:47 P.M if I channel and fall into a zone. I am entertained by my own stories. LOL
How do you approach cover design?
After I changed the name I was led by spirit to go with graphics as they were self fulfilling. You have the Cracked pot atop the definition and one of the biggest crackpots in history in Albert Einstein who is quoted in the book as saying, “I am thankful for all of those who said no to me. It is because of them I’m doing it myself.” The ambiguity of it all is rivaled only by the controversial subtitle. I want to shadow a picture over the entire cover once i can afford a professional graphic designer. :)
What do you read for pleasure?
I read everything from romance novels to spiritual and metaphysical material. I am very accepting and open minded of creativity of all kinds. I do not condone the suppression of the will and the denials associated with lost will. Once you read "Crackpots" aka "The Pot" you will learn that I have a no holds barred approach, although I do realize I may have to censor some of the dialog for this particular medium. Although I will release limited edition uncensored prints eventually.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I am totally new to this although I have created my own marketing strategy that I feel will become a standard for indie authors looking to create an extraordinary body of creation, I contend that word of mouth speaks volumes once the divine spark is lit through due diligence such as Social Media, SEO, Emails etc...

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I do not claim any one city as I believe was have all been here before. We just choose to forget, therefore, I say I am from a U.F.O. Unidentified family Origins, Don't I kind of resemble a Pleadian Princess - lol - Google it. That said it makes me very carefree and free spirited in my writing style. I try to draft a storyline that is believable so as to draw you in and keep you entertained with clever factoids and humorous banter. You'll see...
What are you working on next?
While I am marketing this E-novel Series, I will be busy re-writing the script as I have added many new characters, subtexts, sub-plots and twists. After that I may pen another coming of age college romance idea that dawned on me while I was writing this one. I would share the title with you but Hollywood has taught me a thing or tow about sharing ideas...lol
