Meditation and Health
Who do you want to acknowledge ?
I would like to acknowledge that the outcome of this book is because of the driving forces partly from the meditation talks delivered by the famous Buddhist monks especially Dr Nandamalabhivamas, Rector, International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, YANGON, Myanmar and partly from the knowledge that MBSR ( Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction ) programs are being run successfully by universities, hospitals and clinics in many countries like USA, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and some parts of Asia.
What are you doing when you get mental distress ?
At the time of mental distress and suffering, people used to resort straight to some kind of sensual pleasures such as drinking alcohol or taking illicit drugs or sleeping pills as a means of escape.. In fact they are just finding easy and immediate way of getting relief instead of addressing the root cause of the problem. What we should do is to search for an exit of the unhealthy mind by applying the mindfulness meditation technique.
How are you going to use earnings from the book ?
My portion of the sales proceeds from the book will go to donations and the charitable work related to research and development of mindfulness meditation and the investigation of its health benefits.
How do you understand suffering ?
The scope of suffering is quite broad. Birth, old age , illness , death , association with those we do not love , separation from those we love, not getting what we desire , anything that changes and anything relating to mind and body are sufferings.
