Interview with Adeline Blue

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
For me, the greatest joy of writing is stepping into another world. You get to do that as a reader but, as a writer, you get to create that world. When you start, you are making all the decisions but, as you get further into it, it's as if the characters are telling you what they would say and the places are describing themselves to you. It just unfolds and you are a very real part of that world...often leaving you feeling like you have one foot in this one and one foot in that one!
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are incredible! It is so fulfilling when people tell me how much they loved one of my books or how they couldn't put it down. It's thrilling to share the world and the story you create with others and hear that they are enjoying the visit! When you write, you literally fall in love with the story and the people and the places. To know that others are falling in love with them to is an awesome thing!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I believe the first story I ever wrote was when I was about ten or eleven, but I can only vaguely recollect it. The first one I remember well was in 9th or 10th grade. It was about aliens who landed on Earth and explored it for a bit, taking note of the similarities and differences. It had a really touching ending where they recounted the things about Earth that make them sad to see and then spoke hopefully about the amazing potential they see its people. I actually think I still have it somewhere.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was about ten. I loved writing short stories. My best friend wrote, too, and one day he read me some of his work. I was in awe. It was such inspiration to do more writing. I spent the better part of my life writing poetry, as well, usually as a way of dealing with things. Writing has always been a love of mine.
What are you working on next?
I am planning to continue The Entanglement Series with a 4th, possibly 5th, book. There are so many places I can go with the story. The characters are really only just beginning their journey. The first three books opened you up to what is possible; I think the next ones will have the characters putting that knowledge to use. Worlds are about to open up!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have a variety of interests and tend to jump into spontaneous projects, losing track of all time and becoming singularly focused. But outside of that, I enjoy time spent outside: hiking, rollerblading, hanging with the critters at the park, horseback-riding, and just about any sport. I also love dance and gymnastics, writing (of course, lol), drawing, spreadsheets (don't ask), building, designing, gardening, and oddly, cleaning. And I LOVE movies!
What is your writing process?
It's something like: sit, get cozy, sip tea, take a deep breath, aaaaaaaand SQUIRREL! I do eventually get into it and then can write for ten hours easily. While I have a constant stream of ideas, I can tend to get a little distracted until momentum really gets goings. I'm normally a very active person, so settling down can sometimes be a process. I also need complete silence. I have never been one that could have music or TV on in the background. When I wrote my first books, it took about two weeks to get used to the constant silence; there wasn't the usual movie or series on at night.
Describe your desk.
It looks a lot like a lap! I actually do a lot of my writing on the couch with the laptop on a TV tray. When the weather is nice, I'll sit on the steps or in the grass with it on my legs. A desk sounds so nice and organized but, in reality, it never happens. I like things comfortable and easy and flexible.
