Interview with A. Christian Mann
Published 2015-07-16.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working mostly. Born and raised on a farm, can't really sit still very long.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My lovely wife.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Smashwords!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Long, long ago, in a time and place far away, I wrote a poem for a girl.....:)
What is your writing process?
When something gets stuck in my head, if I can't turn it off, I get up and write it out. Sometimes it is worth sending somewhere, other times I just file it away until the muse attacks again....
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember my first trip to a library. It was a small western Kansas town. The library had been donated by a local rich man who displayed his hunting trophies there. We didn't get to town much and taking time to go to the library was a treat. I still remember the smell of the books, the reverent silence, the fantastic places I could go and things I could see by opening a book. My early interests were in dinosaurs. Spending time in the airconditioned luxury of the library, under the glass eyes of all manner of animals I had never seen in person began a life long love of books.
How do you approach cover design?
I get an idea in my head, mull it over, give the idea to a REAL artist and trust them.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Bible, The Encyclopedia, The Dictionary, Betty Crocker’s Cook Book and the Complete Films of John Wayne. Why? Because I am weird that way?
What do you read for pleasure?
Mostly non-fiction with a history focus, but an occasional work of fiction a friend suggests.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My PC, I am somewhat Techno-Amish....
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Prayer (grin)
