Interview with Ivy Joy Talabor

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I still do. When I was in highschool I love writing and I let my friends read it. It's the story of a child with deaf and mute parents.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
It's not the first story that I read but it's the one that have impacted me alot after reading it. The story written by Leo Tolstoy entitled " How much does a man need? " . This story always remind me to be grounded and humble in life.
What do you read for pleasure?
I listen to music more than I read, but if there is something I love reading for pleasure is poems and inspirational quotes that I can find whenever I browse. It amazes me of how a story can be said in just a few words, through a quote or a poem.
Describe your desk
My desk is like my life, busy. It's not always messy but there are always targets and visions to be done.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a simple community in Pasig City, Philippines. It's actually my experiences as I grew older that influenced me to write. It's my medium to cope on all the bad days I encounter. If Taylor Swift writes good songs out of her past relationships, I love turning my daydreams, struggles and thoughts in a poem.
When did you first start writing?
I can't exactly remember when, I just found myself holding a pen.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's composed of the poems I wrote two years ago. It's about my journey from my teenage years, specifically sixteen until I was about tewntyfive years old. It tells about the hard days and hopeful encouragements I tell myself everytime I feel low. It's a journey at a young age, learning at a young age about realities of life. I just felt, that somehow, this book will inspire a soul.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have a friend who once said I am a " Diamond" and that friend of mine still believed that I was even I stopped writing. It's really him who gave me the courage to write again and make a book to share my heart to readers.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It gave me an opportunity to publish my book. It's the medium that helped me in making one of my dreams in life and that is to be able to have my own book published and let others know about it.
What are you working on next?
I am working on a book full of poems about love for my future Man. I am still looking for him and hopefully my words will bring him to me.
Who are your favorite authors?
Mary Higgins Clark
Sue Grafton
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
What inspires me to get out of the bed each day is my dreams in life. Everything that I want to have someday for myself and for the ones I love, especially my family.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I listen to music. I love music, especially Taylor Swift songs.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writting is being able to speak through your pen. It's amazing how letter turns into words , rhymes into poems , personal feelings into something that is relatable to all.
What is the best gift you have received this year?
The best gift that I have received this year is my first book. I really wish that someone will appreciate and be moved by it.
