Interview with A.L. Shaner

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have been a bookworm since I was a kid. I enjoyed escaping to other worlds. I wanted to create stories for other people to enjoy as much as I have.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing several years ago, once I finished with school and actually had free time.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Collecting the stories that have been buzzing in my head and writing then coherently to fully realize them.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Joel C. Rosenberg, James Rollins, Richard Turner, David Golemon, and Vince Flynn.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The First Hostage by Joel C. Rosenberg, Map of Bones by James Rollins, The Event by David Golemon, Ghost Country by Patrick Lee, and Left Behind <The Kids> series by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim Lahaye. They are my favorites because they keep me on the edge of my seat and holding my breath as I turn each page. It is easy to loose track of time.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I have a list of authors I follow. These authors I have discovered them either through sales and promotions or recommendations of friends.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first novel I ever read was Jurassic Park. I had loved the movie. Since I could not wait for the sequel, my father lent me the books. I have loved reading ever since. Unsurprisingly, I have remained attached to the that particular franchise.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My favorite e-reading device is the Nook from Barnes & Noble.
Describe your desk
My desk has a TARDIS mug full of pens and pencils, an R2-D2 paperclip holder, and a tray full of miscellaneous papers. A cat can also be frequently found on my desk trying to catch my attention.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The cat that cries the second my alarm goes off. She is impossible to ignore.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend most of my time reading, swimming, playing video games, and watching movies or television.
