Interview with A M Devenish

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Perth, WA. How did this influence my writing? I think it has given my writing a laid back, easy flowing feel.
When did you first start writing?
At primary school we were encouraged to write poems and stories. It is not always easy, but I enjoyed it then and still do now.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The evolution of words, phrases and sentences into characters and a cohesive story, poem or script.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Encouragement from others.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story revolves around a young, single man living in Perth, Western Australia, during the early 1900s. A decision to take a relaxing cruise on the Swan River to do some bird watching leads him into a situation where he is left with more than he bargained for, it is a murder mystery sprinkled with a little romance.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
By being available on-line to publish my current book and those in the future.
What are you working on next?
Finishing my degree and perhaps writing more stories set in Perth.
What do you read for pleasure?
