Interview with A.N. Meade

What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a kindle paper white that was a gift from my husband.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Probably doing blog interviews has been the most effective for me so far, but I'm still learning a lot about marketing.
Describe your desk
Well, my desk is usually a lap desk so I can write wherever I am. I'll sit on the bed and write while I'm watching a movie, or take the computer outside if the weather's okay.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the mountains of southwest Virginia. It influenced my writing a lot because there's something very magical in and of itself about that place.
When did you first start writing?
As soon as I learned how I started writing. I remember seeing a colored pencil short story about a unicorn that I wrote when I was five.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The freedom is what I love about being an indie author.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing in itself is a great joy for me. When I was younger it was very therapeutic, having grown up in an abusive home. Now, it feels like part of me.
What are you working on next?
Next I'm working on a short submission to a YA anthology that will release for Valentine's day.
Who are your favorite authors?
Anne Rice, Laurell K. Hamilton, H.P. Mallory, Annie Nichols, Christine Feehan, and Christine Warren are all some of my favorite authors.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When i'm not writing, I like to fish, spend time with my family, go hiking, attempt to cook even though I'm not great at it, and think about the next writing project :)
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do. I was about five years old and it was written on a pale blue piece of construction paper. It was about a unicorn that was the last of its kind.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
It was from an old fairy tale book that I had, and it was the story of the good ferryman and the water nymphs. I also really liked princess and the pea.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My five favorite books are:
Interview with the Vampire- I love the way that Anne Rice approaches vampire tales in a more classic style
Green Mansions by William Henry Hudson- It's an amazing romance/fantasy that I read when I was 17.
Mansfield Park because what girl doesn't love Jane Austen?
Bait by Annie Nichols because she has some of the most funny dialogue I have ever read in a vampire romance
and Dracula by Bram Stoker because he is the Father of the genre I love so much.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read lots of different things when I make time for it. I love classic literature, like Jane Austen. I also really like the paranormal romance genre. I love to read good quality indie work. In fact Annie Nichols' Bait is one of my favorites. I also like fantasy, and will read anything from Arthurian to futuristic fantasy.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually I look at my facebook feed. I follow a lot of bloggers and I go by their suggestions most of the time.
