Interview with Abbe Alexander

What inspired your first book?
I had taken my closest friend to a nearby hospital for treatment of breathing difficulty. During the wait for treatment we heard from the next cubical, the attending doctor telling his patient that his chronic prolapse symptom was due to a profligate lifestyle and that he was ineligible for treatment and his time could be better spent with another patient. The homosexual patient was told to dress and leave and to not return. My friend and I exchanged shocked glances. Before we could say anything, a nurse came into our space and told us to forget what we might have overheard and to understand that the hospital was understaffed and triage required life threatening priority.
Later that day we compared notes and, rather than bringing charges against the hospital and the doctor, we should consider writing a story of a man who had issues of a similar nature to see if maybe a greater good be done for patients everywhere in the country.
Three years later I submitted my story for publication and kept my interest in writing alive with a screenplay of the same story and a selection of several themes and genre to test my skills.
What are you working on next?
I am working on an Investigative Novel (my term for a novel based on fact and research) about a contact from space at a New Mexico facility . This will be, in one sense, Science Fiction, but also a political thriller. I am still in the process of researching and writing, being about two thirds finished. It's working title is Xenia Contact and should be available in June, 2018.
What are your latest books ?
I currently have two books launching - Kowloon Connection, a CIA thriller about an operative named William Staten whose wife is murdered by nafarious means and who sets off on an investigation to find her killer which leads him from the United States to the Hong Kong, Kowloon, London and Canada before the killer is identified . The second book is President by Attrition, the story of a man whose ambitions take him from his youthful dreams to his adult nightmare in a fast-paced political thriller that should keep the readers engaged and on the edge of their seat. These books are available in e-book and printed editions from the various vendors.
What is an Investigative Novelist?
This is a self-assigned term that describes a writer who analyses world issues and events, researches them, blends them with their own experience and thereby inspire interesting, timely and, hopefully, acurate accounts of those situations and their potential impact on their life and those of others. I decided, years ago, that fact-based books have their place in the literary world and that many people, perhaps even most people, never read. I, therefore, came to the realization that if these issues could be explored in terms of good, exciting fictional literature that they might better reach that audience and therefore have more *real* impact on the reader.
