Interview with Attikus Absconder

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story I ever read Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. I loved how twisted an interesting the book was and it sparked my interest in reading.
How do you approach cover design?
I approach my covers in a more unorthodox way. My other passion is painting and before I even start writing I paint something that reflects the story rattling around in my head. Most people will go to a designer or use a template that works best for their reader's viewing pleasure, but i'm a bit more selfish in that I want my book covers to be more personal to myself and to the stories i'm writing.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Violin by Anne Rice, Because it is just haunting and beautiful. Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice because holy crap have you read it?Horns by Joe Hill because i'm a sucker for a romantic, supernatural sob story. Anything by Neil Gaiman because i'm in love with all of his stories and can't pick just one. And finally The Rising by Brian Keene, I love how brutal and creepy The Rising is!
What do you read for pleasure?
Everything! All the time! I love to read therefore I take pleasure in everything I flicker my eyes across.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I know it's hypocritical but I don't own an e-reading devices. I love having a musty paper-back to flip through.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social media and word of mouth really. Like any creative field it's all about who you know in your network.
Describe your desk
It's long, red and covered in art supplies and computers! Oh and almost always I have a cup of hot tea that's teetering on the edge.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Honestly I grew up around the world. My family traveled a lot and we never really stayed anywhere longer than a year or two. I feel that those experiences have expanded my little universe and I could never ask for anything better.
When did you first start writing?
For as long as I can remember.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love escaping to my little imaginary universes and I get such a rush sharing my worlds with other people.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything! Of course I would keep writing without them but The fact that I have fans at all mean the world to me!
What are you working on next?
A series of short stories with the theme of mystery, supernatural experiences.
Who are your favorite authors?
Anne Rice, H.P. Lovecraft, Neil Gaiman, Jeff Lindsay, Anthony Burgess and so many others!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Painting, doing 3D animation, going to concerts and pubs with live music!
