Interview with Adam Clare

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
A new game awaits me everyday!

Actually, besides coffee the thing that gets me out of bed each day is the idea that I get to work on something game realted. Sometime it's escape rooms and other times video games.

Before leaving for work I make a post on about something good that happened in the world. Each day begins with a positive thought.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm making games! If I'm not making or writing about games I find myself going on long bike rides.
How do you approach cover design?
Cover design is really important so I want my books to reflect the material inside them. It's integral that a person can see the cover and get an idea if it is for them or not. With my escape game book I was fortunate to have Samet Choudhury create all the art for it.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Dune series - It's the oddest guide to humanity.
Paris 1919 - This book marvelously captures the frailty of our political world.
Middle Power Middle Kingdom - A great book about Canada and China relations.
Nine Stories by JD Salinger
Beerology - I love beer and this book is perhaps the best book about it!
What do you read for pleasure?
Whatever my trusted friends tell me to read.
Describe your desk
It's still on order and waiting to be shipped so I'm using my kitchen table.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I played a lot of escape rooms and found them to be making basic mistakes. Instead of just sitting around doing nothing, I wrote a guide on how to make escape rooms. Working with a large publisher would have taken to long to get my book to market.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on two new books right now. It's too early to disclose what they are about - but stay tuned!
What is your writing process?
Generally I find something I'm passionate about and think about how I can add to the current discourse. If I have something worht saying then I will write about it, otherwise I will post something on my website -
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I'm still learning how to do all of this. To be honest, I haven't done any marketing yet my sales are way higher than I thought they ever could be.
