Interview with A.R. Young

When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in 2013 after graduating from high school. I loved the fact that so many great books like "Harry Potter" by J.K Rowling and "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer became such huge film block busters. To be honest, writing was never my no. 1 choice. But I decided to get into after I realized that I could share my stories without having to wait for movie deals. The problem however, was that I had never written in my life except essays at school. So I began reading books by other writers / authors to learn from them. It wasn't until I read "The Host" by Stephenie Meyer that I began writing. It wasn't easy at first, but the more I wrote, the more I got the hang of it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The fact that most traditional publishers are biased and would rather ignore you than published your book. The few traditional publishers I have been to all wanted me to make unpreferable changes to my book that I did not agree with. It's better to do it yourself, at least that way I have full control of my work.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Connecting with the story, the characters, feeling every emotion as if it were your own. There's nothing better than that.
Who are your favorite authors?
That would be :
1. J.K Rowling.
2. Stephenie Meyer.
3. Allison Noel.
4. L.J Smith.
Those are just the few I can remember.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When am not writing, I spend my time mostly just coming up with new stories and new ideas to share my world with everyone, be it animation or whatever way I can be creative.
What is your writing process?
Basically I just first come up with the story as a draft, calculate the length of it and plan to write every chapter or pages on a duration of time. Unfortunately, that doesn't work very well. There are a lot of distractions out there, mainly movies and films. My favorites are animations. Give me that any day and I will be your slave.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No one really ever remembers the first story they read. But I can tell you this, the fist story that ever made an impact in my life was "The Host" by Stephenie Meyer. I love that book so much that I had to watch the movie. BIG MISTAKE! They ruined it. I wish I had never seen it.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1. Harry Potter.
2. Twilight.
3. Vampire Diaries.
4. Immortals.
5. Game of thrones (A song of Fire and Ice).
Notice that they are all series. This is because picking just one from either one of them is hard.
What's the story behind the pack : prey vs predator?
I wrote the pack : prey vs predator because I love animation and that's what this book is all about. Also because it was a trial run book to taste myself as a writer to see if I have what it takes to go beyond my capability. I know it may contain some crazy and insane scenes, just bare it with me, it's not my fault.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yeah, I do, and am still writing it. It requires so much research. Don't worry, when am done with it, you'll be the first to know.
