Interview with Allen B. Grose IV

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, Journee's Journey was the first story I have ever written. My oldest daughter, Journee (5), asked me to write her a story. I don't know about anybody else, but when your five year old asks you to write them a story, then that's what you do. Of course she loved it because I put her into the story, so she has an imaginary world she can revisit time after time just by flipping the pages and letting her mind take her elsewhere. I hope other children enjoy the story just as much as my daughter enjoyed it.
What is your writing process?
My writing process is simple. I just freestyle. By freestyle I mean, I just write my characters down. I don't write out scenes. I just write whatever comes to my mind when it comes. I'm in the same boat as my readers when I write, I don't know whats going to happen either so everything I have on my mind just flows together on paper.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story I ever read was, The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah. It grabbed my attention and made me want more. This is the book that made me want to continue reading and opened up the door for me reading. There was once a time I didn't know how to read as well or spell as well and when I read this book it paved the way for the gift of writing I have now.
How do you approach cover design?
Cover designs is not my thing. I have to shout out my wife, Amanda. She assists me with my cover designs and I give her the no or go on the final product she shows me. I like simple cover designs, not a lot going on and she brings me that style every single time.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My e-reading device of choice is my cellphone. I own the HTC and it handles everything I need to get done from reading e-books to writing my own stories as well as editing and designing any cover designs.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I haven't really tested the waters for book marketing since I am a new found author. I have shared some of my stories with others on my Facebook page to gain fans and support. I hope to gain more fans and supporters throughout my journey of being an author with the stories I write.
Describe your desk
My desk is anywhere I'm at. Lately it has been the couch, two pillows and my laptop or cellphone. I can pretty much write anywhere I feel like it. I don't need one set place to have my words flow and transform into great writing pieces. Once my writing career really takes off, I see myself having my own little office to get away and really write and publish my work.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I was motivated to become an indie author because I love writing. I want to share my writing projects with the world and hope that they love it just as much as I do. I didn't see myself writing anything and since I've been writing I'm seeing it is truly a gift.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has contributed to my success by adding my books to be at retailers far and wide. It have helped me be able to publish my work and share it with others in so many easy steps. I would recommend any indie author to use Smashwords.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is the feedback. I love when my readers predict what will happen next or how they feel it should have played out. It is great hearing the "OMG!" or "How could you let that happen?!" responses of my readers.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love everyone who shows me support by leaving a review or sharing any of my work that I decide to share for free on my Facebook page. I appreciate anyone who buys my books and those that have stuck with me since day one. My readers mean everything to me.
