Interview with Akangbe Oladayo, Sr

What do you read for pleasure?
Novels, news about gadgets, gossip columns, about anything I can lay my hands on.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My phone. I use it for everything. Though a tab would be perfect.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the north of Nigeria, then it got back to Lagos. It was the movies and the TV that i would say influenced me the most.
When did you first start writing?
About 2009. That was the first time i was conscious of writing something for a reason. It was a poem.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest project, not yet released though is a story about Nigeria. It's geared to reflect what could happen in 2015. Lots of action. This is the first time i am going all in for a thriller.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
It's like you want your ideas, your imaginations, your world to be seen and understood and re-lived by other people. The fastest way to do that was to become an indie author.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords is the only reason i still write. They are the only online publishers I use.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It's appreciation of my work, to be told I have done a very good job. To make people tell me they love me because I paint pictures with my words that are so good their dreams can't even compare to. That is my joy.
How do you approach cover design?
My junior brother does that. I don't even try to dabble into it. I just tell him what I want it to look like and he does it. Or something like it.
What are you working on next?
Like I said a book about 2015 and Nigeria. I have snippets of it on my blog. Really really good. Also a series on vampires and werewolves. I got inspired to write that when I saw the vampire diaries. But my book is vastly different from it.
Who are your favorite authors?
Sandra brown. Dan Brown. J. K Rowling's. Tom Clancy. And a whole lot of others i don't know their names
