Interview with Alan J Fisher

What's the story behind your latest book?
It's actually three stories which will, by the end of the series, be tied together into one story. The basic premise is that Alexander the Great did not die in Babylon. He in fact found the secret to immortality and proceded to conquer, as he had always dreamed, from sunrise to sunset.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
It's in my blood, I have been writing since as long as i can remember! This story began it's embrionic life when I was around 12 years old, taken this long to reach it's current form, one i am truly happy with.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I don't know, we'll have to wait and see how successful I become now won't we?
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Words themselves, I love them, I love playing with them and making stories come to life! You know I started this series with a clear goal and structure in mind and it went and changed itself? I had no idea it was going to become what it has but it clearly did. That's what I love most, how the story takes you to places you didn't expect, and you are the one writing it!
What do your fans mean to you?
People who actually understand me? They exist? Well I appreciate and love any that I get, I write to be read and they take the time to read me? Thank you! That's all i can say, thank you.
What are you working on next?
I am the the process of writing the 3rd and 4th collections in this series. The 4th will be the last as I currently see it. After that it's on to the Alexander novel!
Who are your favorite authors?
Iain M. Banks, Ian McEwan, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Frank Herbert.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My daughters, they sleep through the night now and are there to wish me good morning each day, usually at the top of their little lungs!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working (I have a 'real job' until you guys make me fabulously wealthy, then I can give it up) and helping my wife look after our kids and our babies.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I search for them or I may sometimes hear a recommend from a friend.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do, it has turned into the story "Seeker" in my collection "The Wondering Wanderer".
What is your writing process?
I tend to have spurts, sometimes I will just got completely crazy and be unable to stop, words will flow, stories will establish order and emerge. I then print them out and read them, make corrections, make changes as I type them in again. Then I edit them some more and spend probably too much time fussing and worrying until I am happy with them, them i leave them alone before I over edit them and spoil them!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The Lord of the Rings, at the age of 11. It blew my mind and took me places I could never of imagined. I finished it and decided then and there "I want to do something like that!".
